First, I’d like to extend congratulations to Prince William and Princess Catherine. I wish them every happiness in the world.

The world, however, may have had enough of the media frenzy and hype the Royal Wedding has attracted.

To that end, I’d like to present another Royal Wedding. Specifically, the iconic dance by the incomparable Fred Astaire from the 1951 musical “Royal Wedding”. Whether or not you ever saw the movie, you have undoubtedly seen some or all of the scene where Fred Astaire dances around the room–from bottom to top, not side to side.

That was a pretty sophisticated special effect for the era. They had to make the set so that it could rotate, smoothly, and the camera along with set. We’ve certainly come a long way in the special effects department. But somehow, this dance scene still carries with it a lot of charm.
