I’ve been to Smith Rock State Park many times, I’ve taken pictures there in three of the four seasons, got lost up there with my husband (before we got married, and I still married him…) saw my first rattlesnake there, (and God willing, my last.) But I’ve never seen the park like this, before now.

This video is a couple of years old, and it’s rather low resolution by today’s standards. However, the view is one we seldom get the chance to see.

The chances are really good that you’ve seen Smith Rock in the movies. Wikipedia lists several movies that have been filmed there, at least in part: “Rooster Cogburn” and “The Postman”, to name a couple.

Still, there’s nothing like seeing it up close and personal; walking the trail and realizing those small dark spots on the rock face are climbers, not shadows; sitting in the notch of Asterisk Pass with your toes tingling at the height, looking first west at the Cascade Range, then east to the high desert of Central Oregon.

World class rock climbing and hiking, day use picnic area, and overnight camping. Open year round, Smith Rock State Park has something for everyone. Do stop in, when you get the chance.
