The third orangutan born at the zoo, it was disappointing that the baby’s mother abandoned her. But the staff and volunteers are up to the challenge of providing the the infant orang with round the clock care.

In order to integrate the baby, once she is old enough, it is important that she be treated like an orangutan and be around other orangutans. The caregivers hold her constantly, feed her every 2-3 hours and encourage her to cling to them as she would her mother.

The Houston Zoo has not named their new addition yet. They are planning a contest to help pick out the name.
